This Saturday on the Lower East Side, Berlin (at 25 Avenue A at 2nd Street) comes alive with the sound of guitar-driven music from all points of the map. For $15 bucks (now that’s a square deal!), Crystalblu Rocks, a self-described “Rock & Roll Freelance Hairdresser,” “Live Music Photographer,” and DJ, will be “spinnin’ deep cuts from the vinyl vaults of New Wave, Post Punk, Power Pop, Garage, Glam & more” as she presents the exciting NYC debut of The Tommy Crystal from Paris, who just this year released the two-song Live at Studio Blow featuring intriguing vocals by front-woman Paige Brubeck and the jangly “Remind Me Later” ( in English!) alongside Brooklyn, NY’s own TrembleSighWonder-approved Movie Movie, with the rockin’ Flavour (from Troy, New York!) kicking it off. The doors open at 7, and the music kicks off at 7:30.

The local power-pop, rock and roots, prolific, andalways cinematic Movie Movie have birthed a new four-song EP, Coming Attractions. Hold your horses, it ain’t out yet (it’s coming from Topsy-Turvy Records), but you can get your hands on (metaphorically, as of now it’s a digital only release) the first single “After Hours” at BandCamp, which dropped on June 27th of this year. This one is a catchy sumbitch with a bit of an 80s feel, like something the Tom Petty, Lou Reed, The Plimsouls or Greg Kihn might have dropped in ’83.

Saturday night sounds like a sure thing for True Believers Keeping the Promise. There may be no financial future in rock, rock and roll, power pop, glam and such, but that only means there are no pretenders taking the stage; these bands are doing it because of need and prowess. Check it out.
